Cultural Events Opportunities
TRiO-SSS provides opportunities for active participants to attend and participate in Cultural Activities which may be off-campus in the Lawrence community, and/or at other Universities, or communities.
Active participants must have completed all required paperwork, met all TRiO-SSS requirements to date, and be in good Academic and Social standing, to be eligible to participate in the event(s).
University Campus Visits
TRiO is committed to supporting students in their post-baccalaureate exploration and goals and includes connecting students to graduate school programs of interest. We will work with students individually or in groups to schedule campus visits and provide pathways of graduate school exploration that include:
● Learn about the opportunities for research and academic growth.
● Networking with faculty, administrators, graduate students, and program contacts of interest.
● Collect information about the admissions process, funding sources, and general opportunities.
● Participate in lab tours, presentations, workshops on essential graduate school components, and social activities.
Students must be active participants of TRiO in addition to meeting the program travel requirements to be eligible for campus visit trips. Students will be expected to fully participate in all planned activities and abide by the TRiO staff rules established for the trip. TRiO staff reserves the right to deny student(s) who habitually sign-up and do not attend seminars/events/activities or give notice they will not be attending.
Individual graduate school visits to KU can be set up through your Retention Specialists.

Grant Aid Student Funding
What is Grant Aid?
Grant Aid is a supplemental financial resource awarded to active TRiO participants.
When is Grant Aid offered?
Grant Aid is offered every Spring and is distributed to awardees before the end of the semester.
How do we determine which students are eligible to receive grant aid?
Students must be receiving Pell in order to be eligible for Grant Aid funds and must meet the following criteria:
√ Financial need of $600 or more (set by DOE) as calculated by the Financial Aid Office.
√ Good academic and social standing and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above with no pending incident reports.
√ Priority consideration for students in their first 4 semesters.
√ Active program participation (see Active Participation guidelines under Student Responsibilities).
If a student is PELL eligible but has lost their award due to Academic reasons, this may prevent them from returning. Will these students still be eligible for the grant aid?
No. The student is required to be receiving a Federal Pell Grant to be eligible to receive grant aid.
What is the dollar range (the minimum amount and maximum amount) for awarding grant aid?
Amounts vary depending on the number of students awarded but must be between the minimum and maximum PELL for the current academic year.
Priority will be given to students who have participated in TRiO activities (grade checks, seminars, and etc.) and met with assigned Retention Specialist on a monthly basis (see Active Participation guidelines under Student Responsibilities).

Grant Aid Process
1. Current/active TRiO students will have one week to apply and submit the Grant Aid application to TRiO.
2. TRiO will determine the eligibility of applicants.
3. Eligible applicants will sign a Statement of Agreement and Consent Form for the Financial Aid Office to request a Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) for the current academic year.
4. TRiO will review and select students according to their individual remaining need and completion of Grant Aid requirements.
5. Once awardees have been identified, TRiO will submit names and amounts to the Haskell Foundation to create checks.
5. Grant Aid checks will then be sent to Financial aid for processing and then send to the Bursar’s Office for review.
7. After the Bursar’s Office has completed the reviews, awardees will notify ALL students who applied for Grant Aid whether or not they were awarded funds.
8. Checks are distributed by the Bursar's Office.
Please contact your Retention Specialist if you have questions regarding Grant Aid.
